The Learning Resource Centre is central to the academic and cultural life of the College. It may be used by students from Year 7 onwards.
The primary objective is to contribute to the raising of students' academic achievement by providing access to appropriate information to support their studies. We also aim to increase pupils' confidence in locating and handling information and studying independently and to encourage and develop reading for pleasure by providing a wide range of fiction and non-fiction.
'Pupils display a positive attitude to learning at all stages. Pupils work well independently...and co-operatively'. ISI Report 2011
There are some 16,000 books, of which 3,500 are fiction. The Centre provides two daily English language newspapers, foreign language publications and a range of periodical titles, both academic and recreational.
The Centre also has 18 networked computers which have the standard College software and access to the internet for academic work only. There is also a colour photocopier/printer.
Items are generally issued for two weeks, and may be renewed. Students in years 7 to 11 may borrow four items. Students are advised of overdue items through notes distributed via their form tutors.
The LRC is open from 8:30 to 17:00, Monday to Friday, during term time, including morning and lunch breaks
