'The quality of specialist support for pupils with learning needs is skilful and effective'. 2011 Independent Schools Inspectorate
We welcome any child that meets our required entrance standards. Conditions like dyslexia or dyspraxia are not seen as a barrier to bright children attending St Dunstan’s.
The Learning Support department works on a one-to-one or small group basis with pupils. All pupils who have an identified learning need will be offered support, usually on a weekly basis.
Pupils are taught in a structured, cumulative and multi-sensory way that builds on existing knowledge and provides revision and reinforcement of new learning. Strategies to support independent learning are taught and pupils are encouraged to discover their own most effective ways of learning.
All children are screened on entry. Pupils with an identified learning difficulty are given a 'Pupil Profile' that outlines their strengths and weaknesses and suggests strategies for the pupil, teachers and parents that may help the child. Some pupils do use laptops.
